You are currently viewing Remodel vs. Moving

The past couple of years has forced most of us to spend a little more time at home.

With all that time, we’ve heard lots of stories of amazing remodels and upgrades completed to homes! We’ve also seen the real estate market go a little crazy. So, what are the advantages of a remodel vs. moving? And how should you determine what is the best course of action for you and your family?

Cost

Cost plays a big part in the remodel vs. moving conversation. You need to look at your “want” list and determine if it is better to remodel your current house or move to a new one. Obviously, if you want a bigger yard and more space, you can’t just remodel to make that happen. So, figure out the items that are really important to you and create a budget for what it will take to get there.

Emotional Attachment

Even the most stoic of us have an emotional attachment to something in our lives. Does that something include your home? What things will you miss about it? If you can’t picture your family living anywhere else, then go the remodeling route. Moving is stressful, and even more so when you add an emotional attachment into the mix.

The Market

In our area, the real estate market is still in the seller’s favor. Also, with it cooling down a bit, you’re more likely to not be so rushed to find a new home to live in. It is a pretty perfect time to consider the moving route. If you’re on the edge of a decision, stop in. We can sit down and gather the information needed to see what homes are currently for sale that would be of interest to you. It doesn’t hurt to check out your options.

Timing

Life is stressful. Is it the right time to move your family? Maybe you’ve got some external family issues happening – like an ailing parent, or the start of school, or a child leaving for college (and the expenses that come with that). When you remodel, you need to pay for it immediately. Look at your current circumstances to see if now is a better time in the remodel vs. moving debate.

We hope that these 4 things help you determine if a remodel or a move is the right decision for you. If you are ready to move, contact us. Our team is here to take the stress out of the real estate process. And we can help you find your next dream home.
